Hawk Circle Festivals & Events
An Interactive Approach that Energizes any Event or Celebration

In the past nineteen years, Hawk Circle staff and instructors have trained and studied the skills and awareness of natural living.   These individuals have a presence that is wild, full of life and a natural leadership that is palpable.

When we come to a festival, we come with the desire to actually change people.   We want to make an impact, in a positive way, that improves people's relationship to nature and self.   This is actually difficult to do.   In a typical festival or event, you may only have ten minutes to have a participant's attention, before they head off for refreshment or to listen to music......

We have to do more than talk.   We have to create an environment that is different.   Not slick, modern 'show and tell booths' but something real, authentic, familiar in an ancient, genetic heritage sort of way.

We might start with fire, demonstrating and teaching people to make a fire with sticks, or flint and steel.   We might get everyone's hands working on twisting plant fibers for cordage, for rope.   We might make leather pouches to form 'medicine bags' to wear around the neck.

Think of it this way:   You are wandering by the usual tables and info booths, when you hear the sound of moose antler billets striking flint, the crisp crack as a knife blade or spearpoint takes shape under the expert eyes of someone who knows something about stone.   You look towards the sound, and see a circle of tall sapling poles, with feathers dangling, some holding drums, baskets or buckskin garments, all hand made, worn and real.  Not from a museum, but something used everday.

A blanket covers the ground, providing a place to sit and make string, or bead a necklace, or drill a hole into a stone for a pendant.   Instructors provide answers to questions, and share in friendly conversation, helping you gain a real skill, here, at this event, despite the short time frame.

You suddenly realize that maybe you don't need to rush away just yet.   The lawnmowing can wait, the house chores, the errands, all a little less important. You are in the midst of an authentic experience, with real value and purpose.

Maybe you have kids, and they are still making arrowheads, or string or pouches, and don't want to leave.   You take the time to really, truly discover the place, the host organization, the purpose of why the whole event is actually going on.

You 'get' it.   Finally.   And you don't even need a brochure.  It is all so clear, so obvious.  So simple.

Making this sort of experience isn't easy.   It might look easy, but it takes a lot of prep time.   It takes time to train instructors.   The visitors don't see the two or three days of materials preparation.  Gathering and carving saplings.   Tying feathers. Splitting and loading dry firewood. All of the craft materials, the displays, and the planning.  Visitors don't see the rising at 4am to get to the festival site in time to set up and be ready for the day to begin, or the return travel, the unloading and the hectic week that typically follows when we lose a weekend off and end up working for twelve days straight.

If you would like a custom event package to help create a powerful experience for your visitors and clients, please call Ricardo Sierra at 607-264-3396 or email him at Ricardo.J.Sierra@gmail.com

He can work with you according to your event mission, your client's needs and your logistical details, to find the best way to reach your goals.  He can provide a written description and photos for press releases, as well as quotes for any local press to help provide inspiration for your community to attend.

The cost for a Hawk Circle component to your next event or festival depends on distance, number of staff available and needed, as well as the number of activities and event length.  It is difficult for us as a small organization ourselves, to give discounts but we will make every effort to give you the best value for your investment, to help you meet your festival goals or mission.
